St Stephen’s, Hampstead

A few pictures of St. Stephen’s Church in Hampstead, recently restored after 30 years of lying empty. It holds particular importance to me, mainly because it scared the shit out of me for much of my childhood, having gone to the primary school down the road. It was always dark and terrifying looking, and haunted me every time I passed it by, so it was really interesting hearing about its restoration.

Restored through fundraising by a local trust, the inside of the building is incredibly impressive. Far more so than the exterior suggests. If you’re in the area then I would definitely recommend having a look.

It’s currently used as a venue for events, but there are also open days every first and third Sunday.

One particular event that might be of interest is a talk on “Hampstead’s Hidden Rivers”, which is Wednesday 18th April at 6.30pm. Find more info here
